20-21 Welcome Back Letter from Mrs. Tamayo

Dear BLES Families,

Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year! We are eager to begin working with your students. Distance learning is going to look much differently than it did in spring. All students will be issued a district device. (Please see the schedule below regarding device pick-up). Teachers will have daily live lessons with students where they can teach, support, and answer questions. Teachers will also share weekly schedules with families to help them plan. This will help support our families with distance learning.
We intend to move to a hybrid model as soon as possible where students attend school each week in smaller class sizes. We will have safety measures in place to protect our students. We will also call our families and your teacher will update you any time we have an update.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Tamayo

School Opening 2020-2021 on Distance Learning

Dear Bear Valley Unified School District Families and Staff,
This afternoon Governor Newsom announced that California counties which have been identified on the watch and monitor list are mandated to begin the school year with distant learning.
Although we have made every attempt to safely bring our students back to our campuses for the beginning of the school year, the cases in San Bernardino County continue to rise. This impacts the availability of COVID 19 tests and hospital beds. Local data is still relatively low yet is increasing daily.
We hope our community is spared the extreme spikes we are observing in other areas of the county; however, until our county data shows improvement, we will adhere to the Governor’s mandate to begin
the year with full distance learning on August 3rd.
Distance Learning for the 2020-2021 year will offer online daily interactive lessons, rigorous curriculum,
and consistent feedback from the classroom teacher. Assignments will be graded and attendance will be taken daily. At the end of the 2019-2020 school year, we transitioned quickly to distant learning in a hold
harmless environment, which did not have the same requirements as our current model. This new model of distant learning will provide an increased level of interaction and accountability to support student
achievement. When it is safe to return, we will make every attempt to bring our students back in the classroom for the hybrid model and if possible, our lower grade students in K-3rd for five days a week. If
there is a time in the upcoming year that it is deemed safe for all students to return to 100% full time, we will make that transition.
Your school site principals will be communicating with you in the next two weeks to provide the necessary information to begin the school year. If you have not registered your child for the 2020-2021
school year, please complete the online registration on the District website to ensure your child is enrolled.
At this time, we are hopeful that our community continues to stay safe and healthy and that we are able to return to our school sites at some point in the near future.
